Who is this right for?
First Time Parents
When you think about first-time parents, you might picture a lot of excitement, joy, and laughter, looking as if they have everything figured out and life has just improved. However, this experience can also bring a range of emotions, including feeling overwhelmed, fearful, anxious, and sad. With Mama’s Mind Matters, we’ll provide you with all the information you need about your mental health, how to address any symptoms, and how to seek additional help if needed, ensuring there are no surprises along the way.
Second Time Parents
Every pregnancy is unique—we hear this often from our OBs, midwives, and community. This uniqueness includes the role hormones play in your pregnancy and postpartum experience. Some people have a great first pregnancy but experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder with their second baby. Educating yourself is the best thing you can do for you and your growing family. That's why Mama’s Mind Matters is beneficial, no matter what stage of growing your family you are in.
Future Family Planning
If you're in the early stages of expanding your family and want to gather as much information as possible before making this big decision, Mama’s Mind Matters is the perfect course for you and your non-birthing partner. It will educate you on what to expect during your pregnancy and postpartum period. While there's plenty of information available on the physical aspects of preparing for pregnancy and birth, Mama’s Mind Matters focuses on your mental health and how to manage it effectively.
Basically, this is for you if...
You want to invest in your mental health in order to build a healthy bond and connection with your baby.
You've never been to therapy before but worry about how your hormones may effect you during or after pregnancy.
You've taken birthing classes or lactation classes but you still haven’t heard much about the postpartum period regarding your mental health.
You've had your beautiful healthy baby but you're overwhelmed by your emotions and what to do with them.
You want an easy, straightforward system to be able to know how you can help yourself, when to get professional help, where to get help, and what resources are available to you.
On the flip-side...
This is not for you if...
You’re looking for a “quick fix” for your mental health because you are in the thick of it right now.
You prefer a one on one approach to working through your mental health struggles.
You’re not interested in maternal mental health or healthy coping skills to better your quality of life.
You tend to be stuck in the victim mindset where everything is happening to you rather than a solution focused mindset where you want to learn how to make things work for you.
Why I created this:
Hi, I'm Carol Ann! I'm a licensed professional counselor who empowers pregnant and postpartum mothers with the knowledge and resources they need to confidently navigate motherhood and their mental health. I provide comprehensive psycho-education on what to expect, self-help strategies, and avenues for professional support, ensuring every mother feels informed, supported, and empowered as she embarks on this new chapter of her life.
I’m from Connecticut and have been my whole life. I live with my husband, and two spunky daughters who take after their mother on their quirkiness. I love crocheting, house plants, doing something creative, and drawing with chalk in the driveway.
But perhaps more relevant to you, I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with over 10 years of experience working in a 1:1 setting as well as group settings. I currently run a course educating mama about their mental health and what they have access to as a new parent as well as carrying a small caseload of clients for 1:1 sessions. I volunteer for a non-profit in my town raising awareness for mental health and substance misuse. We work to destigmatize and provide resources to people in need. I also volunteer for a non-profit, Postpartum Support International, the Connecticut Chapter which does the same as the previous mentioned non-profit, but strictly focusing on mamas.
I wanted to share what I learned with a wider audience, so I created this course. It's crucial for women to feel comfortable sharing their pregnancy and postpartum experiences without shame, even if they don't match the idealized versions seen in movies. By normalizing these conversations, more women will feel empowered to seek help, ultimately leading to more positive outcomes for both mom and the baby.
I believe that investing in your mental health is both life-changing and invaluable. By learning about it, you can help yourself, ask others for support, and know what treatment options are available. This knowledge allows you to build a community of love, support, compassion, and strong, empowered women.
